The 'Mission: Impossible' star
says in a court filing supporting his defamation lawsuit against a
magazine publisher that he never cuts Suri out of his life in any way.
Tom Cruise opens up about his relationship with his daughter Suri in a court document supporting his legal battle with a magazine publisher. The "Edge of Tomorrow" actor filed a $50-million defamation lawsuit against Bauer Publishing Co. in October 2012 over reports published in Life & Style and In Touch magazines which claimed he "abandoned" Suri after separating from Katie Holmes.
"I have in no way cut Suri out of my life - whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise," he says in the documents filed on Tuesday, November 5, as quoted by TMZ. The "Oblivion" star goes on describing times he spent together with his daughter following the separation. "Even during the times when I was working overseas and was not able to see Suri in person, we were (and continue to be) extremely close," the document reads further.
Cruise also reveals that although he was busy filming two movies last year, he received regular update about Suri from her mother. "As my numerous emails with Suri's mother during this time period demonstrate, I was a constant presence in Suri's life," he explains, adding, "While I'm sure my daughter misses me when I am not with her (as I miss her), she is a very happy child, and we have a wonderful relationship and cheerful phone calls."
The actor, who barely talked about his highly-publicized divorce, once opened up about the separation in an interview with German TV network ProSieben. "I didn't expect it," he said of the separation. He also admitted that he had "an incredible amount of time to reflect" after the split.
"Life is a challenge. To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you - that's what life is. Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor," he added.
