FX CEO John Landgraf gushes over
the next installment, ' 'AHS: Coven' is the best yet, and I have no

"American Horror Story" will return with another haunting tale. FX has picked up the Ryan Murphy-created anthology series for a fourth season consisting of another 13 episodes set to debut in 2014.
FX CEO John Landgraf says in a statement, "Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer. Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk... and the entire production team and cast responsible for the 'American Horror Story' franchise have done is nothing short of extraordinary."
He adds, "Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries. 'AHS: Coven' is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next installment will be even better."
Jessica Lange, who has starred on the show since the first season, will return since her current contract is through season 4. In October, she hinted that she would leave the franchise after a fourth installment.
As for the theme, a source says it "definitely" won't continue on with the witches storyline despite Murphy's recent statement that he would love for the current chapter, "Coven", to continue on beyond this season. "It's not about witches. It's about something else entirely," the source tells E! News.
Murphy and Landgraf, however, have been discussing about a potential spin-off based on "Coven". The series creator said, "[Coven] is my favorite season that we've done so far. Every season, I get very sad when I say goodbye to and we tear down those sets."
"But John Landgraf, to be quite clear, and I have always spoke about that this is a show that's sort of right to spin things off. To do something different. So we are talking about it. Because I mean, I love it. I love this season, I love the cast, and I love what it's about. I love that set more than life itself."
Season to date, "AHS: Coven" is averaging 7.74 million total viewers, surpassing its predecessors "Murder House" (2011) and "Asylum" (2012). Murphy will likely drop clue to the next season in "Coven" finale, which is set to air on January 29.
