Australian Department of
Agriculture has ordered officials to inspect the international edition
of the album for its seed content.
Katy Perry's new CDs are being inspected over biosecurity concern. Australian officials have been told to inspect the deluxe and international edition of "Prism" which contain seeds from overseas country. The "Unconditionally" singer encourages her fans to plant the seeds and "spread the light".
"Seeds or plant material of international origin may be a weed not present in Australia or the host of a plant pathogen of biosecurity concern," a spokesperson for Australian Department of Agriculture said. "The Australian Government has a strong system in place to detect and respond to material of biosecurity concern. This includes the inspection of mail, cargo and baggage."
If proven posing a risk to the Australian soil, the CDs could be confiscated. "Our bio-security officers at international airports, seaports and mail centres assess the risks associated with various items every day and are well-trained in making informed decisions about whether items could be of bio-security concern," the spokesperson continued.
Meanwhile, manufacturers have assured the department that the Australian version of Perry's album contains locally sourced daisy seeds called Swan River. However, fans are still able to buy the international version online.
"Prism" has peaked at number one of Australian Albums chart.
