Ghesquiere, who previously worked
with Balenciaga, will replace Marc Jacobs who left his position at the
luxury brand after sixteen years.
Nicolas Ghesquiere has been chosen to replace Marc Jacobs as artistic director at Louis Vuitton. Last month, Jacobs left the position after 16-year tenure to focus on his namesake brand.
"The Maison Louis Vuitton is thrilled to welcome Nicolas Ghesquiere, one of today's greatest talents," read a statement from the fashion house. "He will bring a modern creative vision to the House's women's collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality which are at the heart of the Louis Vuitton Maison since 1854."
Following the hire, Ghesquiere also made comments on his new position. "Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great Maison. We share common values and a vision. I can't wait to join the team. Together we will build the future of the brand while preserving its precious heritage," he said in a statement released on Monday, November 4.
Ghesquiere, who was born in France 42 years ago, helped Balenciaga to expand the brand globally after joining in 1997. He left the label 15 years later following disagreements with management over the direction of the company. Ghesquiere is expected to release his first collection with Louis Vuitton in March.
