PHOTO: Benedict Cumberbatch makes dramatic return in new Sherlock series 3 photo?

The BBC have finally released an official image from Sherlock series 3 - and it suggests that a seriously dramatic reunion is on the cards for the titular detective and his loyal Watson.

It's a little unsettling to look at, isn't it? John Watson (Martin Freeman) sits alone in a restaurant window, nursing a coffee and still apparently mourning the death of Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock. Just like the rest of us are.

But, seemingly unnoticed by Watson (y'know, the man famed for being half of a famous detective duo), the supposedly dead Holmes is stood at the window looking in at him - kind of like a ghost. A "why did I jump off that building and abandon you?" ghost.

But, obviously, Sherlz isn't dead. So why is he there? Has he stumbled across his lonely friend by chance - or has he sought him out to come clean about, y'know, faking his own death?

Sherlock’s return is sure to be a top telly moment and was recently teased in a short trailer for the new season, which saw Cumberbatch's character walk into a restaurant (apparently NOT the same one as above) while Martin Freeman waits alone at a table.

Check it out:

Will things ever be the same again?

Steven Moffat, the show's executive producer, writer and co-creator, said: "It's been a long time since Sherlock Holmes jumped off that roof - it's time to reveal the truth about what happened between him and the pavement."

We can't wait to see what happens when Sherlock hits our screens in the coming months.
