David Tennant has opened up about his return to Doctor Who for the 50th anniversary episode

When David Tennant's reign as the 10th incarnation of Doctor Who ended, he told us that he "didn't want to go". And, as it turns out, the pinstripe-suited and Converse-wearing Doctor is BACK for the 50th anniversary episode this month.

So how does David feel about reprising his role for The Day Of The Doctor?

"I think since I left, the expectation had been that I'd end up in this special, because there is a precedent for old Doctors coming back for a visit around the anniversary time," David explained to Digital Spy.

"I was thrilled because it's a huge thing for Doctor Who and it's a huge thing for television in general."
That's RIGHT, Whovians; he's over the moon to be back in the Tardis again!

We imagine that might have a little something to do with his newfound friendship with Matt Smith (the current Doctor). Especially as, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, David said that he loved Matt "like a brother".

"I suppose you'd expect me to say we're new best friends and I love him like a brother. But that is sort of how it was," Tennant quipped, adding: "I had a fantastic time and that wouldn't necessarily have been the case.

"I'm coming back onto a show that's effectively somebody else's show and used to be mine and that's potentially quite a weird situation to be in. Going back to something I knew so well and had such fun memories of might have backfired."

 

"It's a quite rare set of circumstances: Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig don't get to play James Bond next to each other. But actually it felt familiar enough that it was like coming home and working with Matt proved to be a real joy.

"I hope I'm speaking for him when I say we really enjoyed bouncing off each other and playing sort of two aspects of the same character. It was everything that I hoped it might be and nothing that I feared it could be."

We can't wait for the 50th anniversary special to air later this month. We just… we just CAN'T wait for it. Seriously.
