After her 'Beyonce' sells 617,000
copies in its first week, the diva becomes the first female artist to
have her first five albums landed on the top slot of Billboard 200.
Beyonce Knowles' new album, "Beyonce", has officially landed on Billboard 200 at No. 1. The self-titled set, which arrived unexpectedly on Friday, December 13, gives the diva her fifth No. 1 album on the chart.
Beyonce has so far released five solo studio albums, and all of them debuted at No. 1. She is the first female artist in Billboard's history to do so. Other artists to have their first five albums to land atop the chart are rapper DMX and folk group The Kingston Trio.
Featuring 14 songs and 17 music videos, "Beyonce" sells 617,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In addition to surpassing Bey's previous highest sales week posted by 2006's "B'Day" with 541,000, the new record becomes the largest selling week by a female artist this year and fourth-highest sales week overall in 2013.
As previously reported, "Beyonce" also made history by becoming the fastest-selling album on iTunes with 828,773 copies sold worldwide.
The rest of new Billboard 200's chart will be revealed on Wednesday morning, December 18.
