The former 'American Idol' judge
hopes that her new song can help fans 'release anything that they need
to let go of that's holding them back or bringing them down.'
Mariah Carey's anticipated new single, "The Art of Letting Go", has arrived online. The new song was debuted on the diva's Facebook page on Monday, November 11. "For the first time ever, here it is... 'The Art of Letting Go'!!!" the singer excitedly told her 14 million fans on the social networking.
Produced by Rodney Jerkins, the ballad features Carey singing about being heartbroken over '60s-style pop instrumentation. "Letting go ain't easy/ It's just exceedingly hurtful/ Cause somebody you used to know is flinging your world around/ And they watch as you're falling down," she croons.
Carey has described the song as "a personal record to [her]." "I wrote the lyrics so that anyone and everyone could relate to them and hopefully release anything that they need to let go of that's holding them back or bringing them down. Thank you for sharing this experience with me!" she added.
The single serves as the title track of Carey's long delayed upcoming album "The Art of Letting Go". Scheduled to arrive earlier this year, Carey's 14th studio effort was postponed indefinitely due to the shoulder injury the star obtained when filming a music video last July.
