James Arthur ‘has a meltdown’ after reading his @replies

X Factor winner James Arthur has been battling an “emotional breakdown” since he did that thing where he annoyed everyone on the Internet, according to a source.

As The Sun reports, James – who has been signed off from his job of ‘being a popstar’ for the past week and a half with what doctors describe as acute exhaustion – is seeking professional help as he comes to terms with the backlash he has received in the wake of that rap diss thing he did at Micky Worthless and those text message things he sent to Lucy Spraggan.

A source told the paper: “James has really been struggling and is not in a good place with everything that has happened.

“He was distraught after getting death threats online following the rap and needed some time to get himself together.”

The source added: “James knows he hasn’t been acting in a positive way–“ NO DUH “– and puts it down to grief following the death of his grandmother.”

But despite all that, James is still plowing ahead with his planned X Factor performance this weekend, despite a growing Facebook group-slash-petition online campaigning against it.

The Facebook group ‘Drop Homophobe James Arthur From X Factor’ has more than 11,000 members and counting, but an insider says James sees this weekend’s performance as a chance to redeem himself after the past fortnight or so’s behaviour – and so it is definitely still on.

“The appearance by James will really be an attempt to save his career,” a source said. “He wants to go back to basics – keep schtum online and let his music do the talking. He now realises that’s the way it should always have been.”
