When we heard that Cheryl Cole had a surprise announcement to make at midnight last night, our imaginations went into overdrive.
Were her and Nadine Coyle hitting the road as a musical double act? Had she had her lovely rose garden tattoo extended to include her front bottom? Was she pregnant with Simon Cowell’s lovechild?
No, actually. She’s making a cameo on Coronation Street. But that’s exciting too, we suppose.
Cheryl will be starring as barmaid Tina’s childhood friend in a one-off episode filmed as part of ITV’s charity fundraiser, Text Santa.
The special episode will be called Fairytale of Weatherfield and will also include a guest appearance from Shane McGowan from The Pogues.
This year’s Text Santa will be raising money and awareness for Age UK, Barnardo's, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, CLIC Sargent and Help the Hospices.
Talking about her visit to The Rovers, Cheryl said, "Coronation Street has always been part of my life - we'd all watch it as kids every night. It's surreal to be part of something I've watched my whole life. It's great to be able to support six wonderful charities and I really hope that this year's appeal makes a difference to many lives."
This will be Chezza’s first acting role since she made a cameo in What To Expect When You’re Expecting last year. Maybe she can ask Sarah Harding for some tips after her iconic performance in Run For Your Wife. Maybe not.
